7-week MEDITATION SERIES - "THE TANTRA OF LIFE: going beyond duality"

“THE TANTRA OF LIFE:

going beyond duality”

a 7-Week Meditation Series

This Meditation Series is an immersion into the path of saying a big “YES!” to life. It is the path of “totality” — a coming together of deep acceptance and absolute awareness — that forms the basis of true tantra. Ultimately it is the path of “surrender to what is”, an all-inclusive way of transcending the divided state of the “me” identity.

Over 7 weeks, Amoda will offer profound pointers and meditations to take you beyond the duality of mind’s veiled perception to the unified field of empty awareness shining through all forms. This is not a philosophical, intellectual or knowledge-based teaching, but an experiential one. The meditations are based on the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra (an ancient text based on a dialogue between Shiva and Devi, aspects of “the One who has gone beyond”) and are designed to expand the inner energy field and facilitate a merging into the totality. The pointers are drawn from Amoda’s essential teaching of openness and her direct experience of “welcoming everything” and devotion to the tantra of life.

Please note, this is NOT an introduction to meditation. The meditations offered here are subtle and powerful, and it is recommended you have some experience of basic meditation.

The mind-shattering magnificence of existence can only be truly revealed to you in the willingness to be intimate with everything that appears in your field of experience in every moment.
— Amoda Maa

Each weekly session is 120 minutes (2 hours) in duration and will include a Discourse, Meditation, and time for Q&As. There will also be a contemplation and/or suggested meditation for the week in between sessions.

We will be using use the Zoom video conferencing program, which is free to download and very easy to use. All you need to participate is a computer (or device) with a built-in speaker, microphone,  and camera, and access to the internet.

An audio and video recording of the meeting each week will be made available.

There will be a Discourse and Meditation each week on the following themes:

Week 1 — Breath is a Bridge from Your Body to the Universe

The breath is a powerful gateway to a deeper dimension of being that connects us to the universal flow of life. But mostly breathing takes place unconsciously and we live in a kind of sleep-walking state, and the potential for transformation through this gateway is missed. By bringing attention to the delicate gap between in-breath and out-breath we start to enter the eternal that pervades our existence from birth to death and we connect with a cosmic energy that is the source of our aliveness.

Week 2 — Be Like a Hollow Bamboo

Being identified with the self as the “doer” is a limited view that keeps us in the realm of having to control life or struggle against life — this is an exhausting way to live and out of harmony with the flow of natural intelligence. By learning the art of “non-doing” — in other words, experiencing a visceral sense of “letting go of effort” — we allow “the divine to dance through emptiness” and this brings an ease and lightness to our everyday lives.

Week 3 — Activating the Lotus Thread of Light

Body and mind are rooted in the spine, but most often the weight of gravity and lack of movement and awareness means energy flow is stagnant here and this leads to physical and mental heaviness. By centering in the delicate silver cord in the middle of the spine and drawing light upwards, we transform the density of the material realm to the bliss of the divine realm and enter a light-filled presence.

Week 4 — Seeing the Beloved in Everything

Our vision is usually narrow-focussed, giving our attention to “things” (whether these things are seemingly solid objects in 3D reality or the thoughts inside our heads). This narrow focus keeps us in the separation-paradigm of “subject” and “object” and this reifies the “me” sense of self. Basic meditation is the practice of becoming aware of the subject as “the witness” and this starts to expand and dissolve the “me” and brings a sense of peace. Here, we go further … by gazing lovingly — with a soft focus and an open awareness — we lose ourselves into the wide open space of the Beloved, in which subject and object are One.

Week 5 — Remembering Yourself as the Whole Sky

Our heads are usually filled with thoughts and perceptions through the sensory organs of the head (sights, sounds, tastes, smells) and we often feel limited, constricted, trapped, or over-identified with thinking. We can practice the sense of feeling our head as “empty brilliance”, like a cloudless sky on a summer’s day. And then we let the whole of existence be absorbed into this “headless space”.

Week 6 — From Death to Deathlessness

Death is often a taboo, something to be feared since so much of our identity is attached to the physical body. This attachment to the body is at the core of the knot of ego and keeps us in a state of psychological bondage. Going beyond the fear of death is necessary if we are to know the freedom of our true nature. Imagining the body burning to ashes is a powerful way to realize that which never dies.

Week 7 — Going to the Source of Peace and Expanding to All Directions

So much tension is held in various parts of the body, keeping our nervous system in a state of agitation and our attention scattered and trapped in the periphery. True peace happens by itself when we fall into the silence of the heart-center. Here, there is a sense of stillness and vastness. By consciously relaxing the body and bringing awareness into the space between the armpits, we allow the vastness to expand from the center to all directions. This is a simple but highly effective access-point to peace in all circumstances.

In order to find God, you must welcome everything.
— Rabindrath Tagore

Last year’s course was so loved by the participants that they asked for more — so we offered a monthly Tantric Meditation Series (Part 2) with more advanced meditations for 6 months. We will consider offering this again to this year’s participants who wish to continue with the tantric immersion.

What last year’s participants say about this course —

“Many surprises arise in this meditation series, exploring portals to opening up into Love.”

“I realized am not this body, I am so much more than that.”

“I have moved into an endless depth and flow of presence, in a most grounded and embodied way. It is truly remarkable.”

“I loved this meditation series — it took me into a deep inner presence at the same time expanding beyond myself.”

“These meditations are gifts that continue in their riches and offerings into my daily life.”

“These meditations have enabled me to enter life as a silent vastness. A beautiful transmission!”
