About Amoda Maa

Amoda Maa (full name Amoda Maa Jeevan, meaning “living a joyous life” in Sanskrit) offers a profound invitation to all those who wish to embody the truth of awakened consciousness in the midst of everyday life. Her life and work is dedicated to supporting this “inner transformation” and envisioning a new world of peace and enlightened living.

Her teachings are free of any ideology and are not affiliated with any lineage or tradition. And yet the luminous truth expressed through these teachings is the same nondual understanding at the core of many spiritual traditions, including Advaita Vedanta, Buddhism (in particular, the Zen approach), Kashmiri-Shivaism (the Tantric path), as well as Christian and Sufi Mysticism. Amoda Maa’s teachings are expressed in a contemporary language, thereby cutting through millennia of patriarchal structure and making them relevant and accessible to all people from all backgrounds and cultures.

A rare gem amongst the many offerings of spiritual teachings.

Amoda Maa brings to her teachings a depth and breadth of understanding of the human journey, born out of her own immersion in the furnace of personal transformation. Unusual childhood circumstances and an introverted nature led her to deeply contemplate the “big” existential questions … such as “who are we?”, “what is life?”, “is there a meaning to existence?”, and “is there something beyond the material reality?”. After a long period of depression as a young adult she abandoned her academic career as a research psychologist and all worldly concerns to pursue an all-consuming exploration of philosophical, psychological, metaphysical, and spiritual teachings and practices that eventually led her to India.

Several years later in 2002, back at her home in London and in the depths of an existential aloneness, she experienced an unexpected and profound awakening in which there was a liberation of self from the knot of ego and an ongoing unfoldment into inner silence. Without a teacher or any guidance, there followed a long period of integration in which all seeking and all methods stopped. In 2012, she started sharing her experience of awakened consciousness at small gatherings in the UK. Since 2016, she has been living in the US and today her teachings are followed by a growing number of seekers of peace and true fulfillment world-wide. Whilst she is often referred to as a ‘nondual teacher,’ she prefers to emphasize the full embracement of the human experience as a path to liberation. Her work continues to evolve in alignment with the real-life concerns of ordinary people seeking to go beyond division in an increasingly divided world.

A highly articulate female teacher—her message is unique and totally relevant to our times.

Amoda Maa has been a keynote speaker at the Conference for Nondual Wisdom and Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, a frequent speaker at the Science and Non Duality Conference in California, a guest teacher at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Wellness in Massachusetts, a guest teacher at Wisdom’s Goldenrod Center for Philosophic Studies in New York, a guest on numerous radio and podcast shows (including OM Times Radio, Pathways Radio, and Buddha at the Gas Pump) and her work has been featured in a number of magazines (including Watkins Mind Body Spirit Magazine and Conscious Lifestyle Magazine).

She is the author of several books, some of them translated into Spanish and Dutch. Her early books "How to Find God in Everything” (published as a revised edition “Radical Awakening” several years later) and “Change Your Life, Change Your World” were written before she started speaking and teaching in public. Her more recent books “Embodied Enlightenment” and “Falling Open in a World Falling Apart” are a comprehensive expression of her essential teachings as they are offered today.

As a spiritual teacher, Amoda Maa offers an extensive program of meetings, retreats, “closed group” courses and “deep dive” trainings, as well as private sessions.

She is also the founder and Spiritual Director of the Amoda Maa Foundation, a non profit organization which is responsible for all the teaching programs as well as supporting the dissemination of the Amoda Maa Teachings to a wider global community through social media, a library of free resources (podcasts, videos, writings), and a scholarship fund.

About Kavi

Kavi (full name Kavi Jezzie Hockaday, also known as Kaviji, meaning “of a poetic nature” in Sanskrit) has been in a deep relationship with Amoda since 2003, after being invited to play improvised music for a broad range of “ecstatic movement meditations” as well as facilitating sacred ceremonies at her transformational workshops in London. His love of the ecstatic poetry of Rumi has been a constant in their relationship and today he is a philosopher-poet in his own right.

Over the years of their relationship — through his own inner exploration and by being in proximity to the unfoldment of Amoda’s teaching — Kavi’s awakening has flowered quietly and gracefully. Since moving to the United States in 2016, and with the expansion of the teaching and his devotion to being with Amoda at all her public events, he has matured into a deeply intuitive and wise guide to support the teaching as Events Director, Admin & Technical Support, closely collaborating with Amoda in the development of the teaching schedule and projects. He also acts as Assistant Teacher on some of the programs, and is the co-founder of the Amoda Maa Foundation.

Kavi offers private sessions and mentoring to those seeking ongoing support on their journey of meeting themselves more authentically, with particular emphasis on unravelling family dynamics and patterns of habitual thinking and reactivity. His approach is an excellent adjunct to the Amoda Maa Teachings, bringing the human story into the revelation of peace at the core of being-ness.

Kavi’s loving presence eloquently nurtures a deeper knowing. With compassion and empathy he speaks the language of the heart.
