Amoda Maa is a contemporary spiritual teacher and author.

Her teachings are both timeless and refreshingly modern, offering profound pointers to truth beyond spiritual tradition or ideology while bringing a cutting-edge perspective to spiritual inquiry.

Amoda’s teachings show you that awakening is no longer about abandoning or transcending physical reality in order to live a spiritual life: it’s about the fulfillment of your divine destiny by living the truth of your inner radiance while in an earthly body. Through these teachings, you are called to anchor yourself in the pristine perfection of your inner light and then to fully embody and express this light amidst the imperfection and darkness of the world.

Her voice is a gift to humanity.
Listening to her feels like it’s coming from the heavens. So Illuminating to my soul. So clear to my mind. So deep.
Amoda has a quality of authenticity that is unique among spiritual teachers. Her message is priceless.
Amoda’s teaching is unsettling and at the same time irresistible. She shines a light on the areas of my life I’ve been trying to avoid through spirituality. She takes you to those dark places and empowers you with the courage to open and embrace all of it.

Both as a spiritual teacher and in her personal life, Amoda fully embodies and expresses the essence of her teachings. She is utterly anchored within the light of awakened nature and yet passionately committed to the bittersweet juiciness of earthly existence.

Her childhood and early adult years of personal hardship - marked by isolation, unexpected events, loss, and depression - were the catalyst for her spiritual search many years later. When her academic career as a psychologist (she pioneered the early research at the University of London into the “runner’s high” and the relationship between psychological well-being and exercise) and her long-term relationship collapsed in the late 1980’s, she became penniless, homeless and without an identity.

At rock bottom, she found herself fully open to living in the present, and she embarked on a journey of inner exploration that eventually led to a love affair with India. After many years of intense meditation and psycho-spiritual practices, as well as a series of spontaneous transcendent and visionary experiences, she stopped searching for a teacher or teaching and life became the real guru.

I’ve been listening to spiritual teachers for over 30 years and Amoda’s teachings are some of the most compelling I’ve come across. Her message is very powerful.
Every word she speaks come directly to my Being.

In 2002, an experience of the dark night of the soul led to a profound inner awakening. After a long period of integration, in 2012 she started speaking to small gatherings in her home country, England (UK). Her mother’s unexpected and dramatic death in 2013 was a pivotal experience that not only completed a painful chapter in Amoda’s life, but also brought an even deeper realization of the oneness of being and the mystery of existence.

Today, Amoda Maa is a unique voice attracting spiritual seekers all around the world as well as countless ordinary people looking for peace and fulfillment in an increasingly chaotic world.

Amoda is now based in the USA, offering talks, meetings and retreats to a growing audience. She is also a faculty member of Omega Institute and Kripalu Center, a frequent speaker at conferences and events (including the Science & Nonduality Conference and the Conference of Nondual Wisdom & Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies), and a frequent radio-show guest.

She brings to her teachings a depth and breadth of understanding of the human journey, born out of her own immersion in the furnace of personal transformation. She also has a wealth of experience as an emotional release therapist and transformational group leader, and is a highly skilled breath-worker. In the 1990’s, she developed a revolutionary method of “ecstatic movement meditation” which she taught for many years in the UK. While she no longer focusses on these methods, her teaching includes the wisdom of a holistic perspective.

A highly articulate and relevant female teacher. The world needs more of that.

"Awakening is not the end of relationship, but the end of the dream of relationship." - Amoda Maa
